Emergency service teams have been called to fight both blazes, with aerial support being required for the most recently-reported inferno. Earlier on Thursday, we saw some harrowing scenes coming from the Holy Cross educational facility on the outskirts of the City Bowl.

Fortunately, all learners and teaching staff were evacuated safely. No injuries or fatalities have been reported. Jessica Shelver is a spokesperson for the Western Cape Education Department (WCED): She was able to confirm the school had been evacuated and would issue a detailed statement in due course.

However, as one fire calms, another has reared its head. Working on Fire confirmed via their social media channels that the blaze in Camps Bay was reported just before 15:00, and all units have been called to the scene. The inferno has climbed up towards the mountainside, with the seafront remaining unaffected.

This is a developing story and we’ll add more information as and when its received.
