There is a cat ‘serial killer’ on the loose in Manenberg, Cape Town, according to the Animal Welfare Society of SA (AWS). At least eight cats in the area have been brutally disembowelled and the organisation is doing its utmost to hunt down the person responsible for these horrific acts.

MANENBERG CAT SERIAL KILLER

The animal welfare organisation first alerted the public to the killing of cats and kittens in Manenberg on 15 July and called on the public to help its inspectors track down the “sadist.”

“They [the inspectors] are not interested in his motive. They already know that is 100% evil,” said AWS. “They want to see him put behind bars before he commits any further atrocities against defenceless innocent animals.”

By 20 July AWS said the net was “fast closing in on the Manenberg cat killer” and said that since its initial Facebook, it has gathered a substantial docket of anecdotal evidence that suggests that the killer has done this before.

“We have reason to believe that this evil individual – whose signature is to slice the cats in two before throwing them into residents yards – is responsible for at least seven other cats in Dwyka Street, Manenberg alone,” said AWS.

AWS SAY THEY WILL SUBPOENA PET OWNER

AWS said they believe the cat killer is also responsible for bashing in the face of another cat in the area and claims the cat’s owner knows the identity of the perpetrator but is scared of coming forward with the information “for fear of retribution and hesitant to see him prosecuted.”

“By choosing to do nothing they are allowing evil to triumph and buying this serial killer time to continue with his sadistic killing spree with impunity,” said AWS, adding that it will subpoena the owner to reveal the identity of the killer “if push comes to shove” and may also charge them with obstruction.

“Whoever this individual is represents a real danger to society and must be stopped before his actions escalate and further lives are lost.”

CAT KILLER STRIKES AGAIN

On Wednesday, 21 July, the AWS said another cat was found dead with its innards ripped out. The cat’s body was reportedly found in the playground of a Manenberg school.

“This is reportedly the eighth cat that this monstrosity has slashed and disembowelled and we desperately need your help to catch this monster who appears to have struck fear into the heart of the community,” said the animal welfare organisation.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk told News24 there is no record of the reported cat killings and urged residents to open criminal cases at the nearest police station.

The AWS is now attempting to raise funds in order to offer a “persuasive reward” and double its investigative efforts.

“Someone out there knows who the perpetrator is and maybe all they need is a nudge so we are appealing to your kindness to please contribute towards this strategy,” said AWS.

Donation details can be found on the AWS Facebook page and Senior Inspector Mark Levendal can be contacted at 021 692 2626 during office hours or at 082 601 1761 after-hours if the public has any information that may assist the investigation.
