Cape Town cops recover 300 boxes of liquor worth R1.8 million

The Cape Town police recovered hundreds of boxes of stolen liquor and arrested one suspect in Eerste River on Sunday, 4 December.

CAPE TOWN POLICE RECOVERS ALCOHOL WORTH MILLIONS

The Western Cape Extortion Task team recovered 300 boxes of stolen liquor from a property in Heather Park, said South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Ndakhe Gwala.

The recovery came after a tip-off from the Crime Intelligence department. “During the search, they seized alcohol worth R1.8 million,” said the police spokesperson.

A truck transporting the same alcohol brand was hijacked in Maitland, Cape Town prior to the search and seizure operation.

A 43-year-old woman was arrested at the scene for possession of the suspected stolen property. She is expected to appear before the Blue Down’s Magistrate’s Court once charged.

In an unrelated incident, a Brazilian woman was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg for alleged drug smuggling. The police said she entered South Africa on a flight from Qatar.
