The Cape Storm is not letting up folks, parts of the Cape may have gotten a bit of a reprieve for an hour or so but now “part 2” is firmly underway. The Western Cape’s various Disaster Management Centres have now confirmed that 5 lives have so far been lost to the storm.

A family of 4 has been killed in Kraaifontein after a fire broke out after a lightning strike. The fifth casualty comes after a building collapsed in Lavender Hill.

The Imizamo Yethu township that was just a few months ago ravaged by fires, has once again fallen victim to a natural disaster.  2000 residents have been displaced so far as shacks have been completely destroyed by the high-speed winds and rapid flooding. A further 400 have been displaced in Macassar Village.

Power lines have been damaged all over the province as a result of trees falling and debris getting blown through the air.

While videos of the storm are all over social media, please be warned that any videos of an approaching “tornado shaped wind” have been confirmed as fake.

EWN are now reporting that over 46 000 rural homes will be in the dark tonight after they lost power to line damage.

As the number of displaced Capetonians continues to rise, the City says it is able to provide shelter for 40 000 citizens at any given time. Some are already attempting to rebuild, even though it may all come crashing down again tonight.
