Cape Metro police offers R50 000 reward to bring cop’s killers to book

A 53-year old Constable was ambushed outside his home on Monday. Cape Town authorities have offered a reward for anyone with credible information.

It’s often easy to get dismayed with the South African Police Service, but it’s also easy to forget that their lives are at risk daily.

Constable Ben Koopman was shot dead outside his house on Monday morning. The motive for the murder is not known, but the supsects are believed to have fled with his service pistol. Constable Koopman was on his way to work from his home in Eersterivier when he was ambushed.

The Western Cape’s minister of community safety‚ Dan Plato‚ on Tuesday condemned the murder and said: “I wish to extend my deepest condolences to the officer’s immediate family‚ his wife and three children‚ as well as his friends and law enforcement colleagues for their loss.”

“I trust the South African Police Service is already conducting a full investigation as the cold blooded killing of a member of the law enforcement fraternity cannot be left unpunished.”

Authorities have offered a R50 000 reward for anyone with any credible information that will bring his killers to book.
