British passenger dies at OR Tambo International Airport

A British passenger collapsed and died at the OR Tambo International Airport on Thursday.

THE BRITISH PASSENGER DIED ON THURSDAY

Michael Joseph Morris collapsed in the international arrival bathrooms after arriving on British Airways flight BA 057 from London, Heathrow. He was travelling with his wife.

Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) CEO Mpumi Mpofu extended her heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Michael Joseph Morris.

ACSA Paramedics responded immediately, but Morris was declared dead at the scene.

THE MAN WAS DECLARED DEAD ON THE SCENE

Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) and ACSA’s security team attended to the scene.

The cause of death is yet to be officially determined.

“ACSA is deeply saddened by Mr Morris’s tragic passing. Our thoughts are with his wife, family and loved ones at this difficult time,”

said Mpofu.

THE FAMILY OF THE MAN IS TRAVELING BACK TO THE UK ON FRIDAY

ACSA can confirm that a British Embassy official was a passenger on the same flight and assisted with contacting the Embassy to advise them of the incident.

Mpofu furthermore said they had been informed that the family of Morris is scheduled to travel back to the UK on Friday.
