Former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela has levelled a volley of home truths at Brian Molefe, telling him that the stone cold evidence against him ‘cannot lie’.

Molefe is the former CEO of Eskom, and he is heavily implicated in dodgy state capture dealings involving Jacob Zuma and the Gupta family. He’s been grilled intensely by Parliament’s portfolio committee, who are beginning to squeeze testimony out of the key players linked to the Indian billionaires.

State Capture lies irk Madonsela

During his gruelling five-hour testimony, Molefe criticised Madonsela’s state capture report, labelling it as ‘fresh air’ and ‘rushed though’. Needless to say , the former PP wasn’t about to let Mr Molefe shoot his mouth off without a response…

Madonsela points to a vast body of evidence that strongly suggests the ex-Eskom chief has been a Gupta puppet. Speaking to The Citizen, she suggests that irrefutable scientific proof makes the case against him ‘very strong’:

“Concerns that the report was rushed and is incomplete are fair. The report points that out itself. It’s clear that that prefacing is courteous and seeks to avoid judging, but the evidence is then presented.”

“For example, the evidence that Molefe was in Saxonwold is based on triangulated cellphone signals and the Gupta security register.”

“While still on lies, Mr Molefe should know the power of technology in strengthening forensic investigations. Cellphones and TV don’t lie. The evidence against him is on both phones and don’t lie.”

“This includes lies told post-state capture investigation about the circumstances of his resignation, or retirement, from Eskom. On live television, Molefe admitted to being in Saxonwold and then pointed to a “shebeen being there.”

Thuli Madonsela brings state captors to book

Thuli Madonsela’s 2016 report marked the first legal challenge mounted against state captors. However, the inquiry took an an age to reach Parliament. This was in large parts down to Jacob Zuma’s court challenges, before he eventually gave up.

Would an innocent man have fought so hard against an inquiry, rather than chomp at the bit to clear his name? You wouldn’t think so. Zuma’s protestations have perhaps done him – and Molefe – more harm than good.
