The next time some dullard asks why a woman wouldn’t speak up if she gets sexually assaulted, show them this heinous case…

It’s enough to turn your stomach. AfriForum’s Private Prosecution Unit have picked up a harrowing case, after they accused SAPS of ‘abandoning the victim’ and ignoring her human rights. The abuse suffered by this unnamed woman is genuinely jaw-dropping.

Gauteng woman ‘terrorised’ – allegedly by her ex-boyfriend

As confirmed by the lobby group’s Communications Officer, Barry Bateman, the woman raised a complaint of rape against her ex-partner last year. However, the wheels of justice were unmoved – and just five weeks later, the man allegedly sought a brutal and heinous brand of revenge.

When the victim came home from work in September 2021, Mbongisene Zwane was reportedly waiting for her – with a loaded gun. He is accused of firing eight bullets into his one-time partner, before leaving her for dead. Miraculously, she somehow survived this gruesome ordeal.

Her suffering didn’t end there, though. It’s understood Zwane tried to gain access to her HOSPITAL BED after she was gunned down. Thankfully, COVID-19 protocols were enough to block his path, and kept him from allegedly ‘finishing the job’.

AfriForum leap to victim’s defence, after rape and attempted murder ordeal

Forever the fighter, the woman then opened a second case with Cleveland SAPS – filed with the same investigating officer – and provided the department with Zwane’s name, identification, and location details. Astonishingly, this still wasn’t enough to prompt an arrest.

This has forced the traumatised woman to ‘live in hiding’, whereas the alleged perpetrator remains free. Feeling like all avenues had been exhausted with SAPS, this survivor took her troubles to AfriForum – and they are now piling the pressure on SAPS to formulate a satisfactory response.

Advocate Gerrie Nel is now representing the client, and his first port of call has seen him write to Gauteng’s Provincial Commissioner, in a bid to ensure that a full and robust investigation is carried out. Needless to say, The Bulldog was left apoplectic by the police response.

“There is no excuse for the long arm of the law not to have carried out an arrest in this matter. He is a well-known figure to the client, who she has been able to identify as her attacker. The SAPS has unashamedly abandoned our client on every single one of her fundamental rights.”
