SOWETO, SOUTH AFRICA – FEBRUARY 27: Nhlanhla

Operation Dudula Leader Nhlanhla Lux has been told he could face the possibility of three months in jail, if he fails to comply with court orders set down on Wednesday morning.

Why was Nhlanhla Lux in court today?

The controversial figure, who has shot to prominence as the head of the anti-illegal immigration group, was detained by police for raiding a suspected drug dealer’s house in Soweto last month.

Earlier today, he was summoned to the Meadowlands Magistrate’s Court in Gauteng, after a warrant for his arrest was actioned. Nhlanhla Lux initially appeared in court three years ago, for the alleged assault of his mom’s tenant.

He was meant to return to the dock after three weeks, but he failed to appear on 30 September 2019, and only now has the warrant been executed by law enforcement officials. Upon learning about this development, Operation Dudula’s top dog immediately presented himself to the court.

Following a brief appearance, Nhlanhla Lux was issued with a ‘caution and discharge’ sentence – which essentially means the legal investigation into this particular incident is done with. However, there could still be a sting in the tail.

That’s because Lux is legally compelled to return to court on Tuesday 3 May 2022. It was confirmed by the judge that a failure to do so would result in him being fined, or even worse, JAILED for a period of three months.

He’s performed a no-show before, but with his growing public profile to consider, Nhlanhla Lux is likely to save himself further hassle and return to the Meadowlands Magistrate’s Court in just under three weeks’ time.
