Representatives for Jacob Zuma have confirmed that the former president will pursue criminal charges against Advocate Billy Downer, as the bad blood continues to flow in Msholozi’s corruption case.

Zuma’s legal team now think they have a chance of securing a prosecution against the prominent lawyer, and they will open an official complaint at Pietermaritzburg Police Station on Thursday afternoon.

“As indicated in court on 22/09/21, Jacob Zuma will be laying criminal charges against Advocate Billy Downer SC for his admitted conduct, which is in breach of sections 41(6) read with 41(7) of the NPA Act. The media is invited to a briefing outside SAPS in PMB on Thursday 21 October at 13:00.”

Who is Billy Downer?

Billy Downer is alleged to have broken laws within the NPA Act, which refer to a respondent’s privacy in the judicial process. The star advocate has previously dismissed concerns raised by Jacob Zuma, and even branded the ex-ANC leader as a ‘conspiracy theorist’ during their most recent battle in the courtroom.
