Advocate Gerrie Nel has made a stark admission in court on Monday, after the murder trial for suspects in the Senzo Meyiwa case got underway. The prosecutor confirmed that the alleged murder mastermind ‘was now known to the police’, and he expects that the culprit will soon appear in the dock.

Muzikawukhulelwa Sthemba Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Ncube, Mthokoziseni Ziphozonke Maphisa, and Sifikuhle Nkani Ntuli are all accused of taking part in the cold-blooded murder of the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper – and the five men were hauled in front of the court this morning.

However, each of the accused has protested their innocence – something that Gerrie Nel says has had an adverse impact on the family of Senzo Meyiwa. Some relatives believe that the men behind bars are not the same people who killed the former footballer, challenging the official narrative.

The case, recently scrutinised in a Netflix documentary, is now commanding worldwide attention. Proceedings were pushed back to Tuesday, after the court adjourned to allow one of the accused and his attorney to consult further. The advocate successfully argued that she had not been given ‘sufficient time’ with her client.

Who is the mastermind? Time will tell…

With the trial delayed another 24 hours, there was only really room for one major revelation – and as far as Gerrie Nel is concerned, it is only a matter of time before the mastermind’s identity is made public

“As far as I am concerned, the police know who it is. They have finalised the investigations. They are still busy with it, I think here and there. As far as I am concerned, the police have a very good idea of who the mastermind is, and I am sure that if the mastermind is not added to the indictment, there will be other indictments in the future.”
