Tensions are threatening to boil over in the Dobsonville region of Soweto on Wednesday, after the EFF gave their full backing to Ntate Victor Ramerafe. The local resident saw his house ransacked by the anti-immigrant group Operation Dudula over the weekend – and he’s pressing criminal charges.

According to Ramefafe, members of the group stormed into his house, accusing him of being a drug dealer. The victim denies any of these allegations. Pictures taken at the scene show how his windows were broken, and belongings thrown to the floor by angry protesters.

However, the EFF and Ramerafe say this was a case of mistaken identity. Nonetheless, both parties are willing to take this further, ensuring that the full might of the law is felt by Operation Dudula.

The movement’s leader, Nhlanhla Lux, will have charges filed against him later today. He’s accused of breaking and entering. A docket for intimidation and assault will also be opened.

EFF to take on anti-immigrant group in Soweto

Operation Dudula claim their goal is to ensure peace and stability in local communities. They are extremely vocal about illegal immigration, and there have been several flashpoints involving the group recently. Dudula members have clashed on the street with foreigners, and confrontations often turn physical.

The Gauteng branch of the EFF confirmed that they would also be in attendance when the party and Ramerafe open their cases against Nhlanhla Lux – who they have openly accused of ‘being a thug’.

“We are on our way to open a case against a thug who intimidated and broke into Ntate Victor Ramerafe’s home. The EFF in Gauteng is not going to sit and watch powerlessly when our black brothers are being deliberately intimidated and our communities unashamedly destabilised by thugs.”
