It’s safe to say Carl Niehaus isn’t a happy bunny this morning. The Zuma loyalist has take offence to claims that he used a WhatsApp group to ‘mobilise rioters’ during the July Unrest in 2021. Over 300 people died as a result of the violence, but Niehaus denies any involvement.
The ANC veteran – who hasn’t exactly seen eye-to-eye with his party in recent years – has accused the Daily Maverick of ‘printing lies’ this week. They mentioned that the GOOD Party had identified Carl Niehaus as a ringleader in the uprising.
Although the publication doesn’t directly make the claim itself, it does bring GOOD’s investigation into the limelight. However, an incensed Mr. Niehaus is having none of it – and he called both the publisher and the party ‘shame-faced liars’.
The outspoken politician denies creating a WhatsApp group, and strenuously rejects the notion that he was a ‘chief mobiliser’ as infrastructure was destroyed across KZN and Gauteng last winter. The firebrand figure also went one step further, vowing to take legal action.
According to Carl Niehaus, he will now ‘sue the hell’ out of the Daily Maverick. He also found time to accuse the news outlet of wanting him arrested simply because ‘they do not like him’. We have a feeling this could be the start of a very long and bitter war of words…
“LIES, DAMN LIES! The Daily Maverick and The GOOD Party are blatant, shame-faced, Stratcom-like liars. I have not created any WhatsApp group to mobilise people during the July Riots. I challenge them to prove me wrong.”
“I am challenging them to provide evidence, and yes I am going to sue the hell out of them. This time, I have been properly rubbed up the wrong way. The Daily Maverick must stop their blatant lies, and just say they don’t like me, hence why they want me arrested.” | Carl Niehaus
