Breaking: Western Cape MP killed in Paarl car accident named as Timothy Khoza

Three others have been injured during a visit to local schools

Four members of the National Assembly have been caught up in the road traffic accident, and there is one fatality according to the Western Cape’s education spokesperson, Jessica Shelver.

Timothy Khoza was a Member of Parliament from Mpumalanga, eHlanzeni Region, Nkomazi sub-Region and served on the Basic Education portfolio committee.

ANC caucus spokesperson Nonceba Mhlauli  confirmed his identity earlier this afternoon.

As part of their roles in the Education Portfolio Committee, the four MPs were visiting various schools across the Western Cape before tragedy struck.

Shelver spoke of her ‘shock and sadness’ in a statement confirming the dreadful news, and sent her thought and condolences to the families and friends effected.

Western Cape Government Statement:

“It with shock and sadness that I have heard that four Members of the National Assembly who were visiting schools in the Western Cape as part of their oversight role as the Education Portfolio Committee, were involved in a tragic car accident near Paarl this morning.

I believe that one of the members has died, whose name has not been released until the family has been informed, and that others have been injured.

My thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the family and friends of the deceased at this difficult time, and the other members who have been injured and part of the accident.

The National Assembly will release further details once they are in a position to do so.”
