The weather service issued a warning for severe thunderstorms over parts of the central interior on Tuesday, 2 May.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms over the central interior on Tuesday, 2 May. The warning key indicates there is a high chance of minor weather-based impacts.

Severe thunderstorm warning for central interior
The severe thunderstorm warning is valid from 9:00 until 23:00 on Tuesday. The weather is expected to affect parts of North West and Free State.

“Unstable conditions with significant amounts of rainfall is expected over the central and eastern parts of the North West and over the Free State province excerpt the southern and eastern parts [on Tuesday],” said the weather service.

The potential impacts of the severe thunderstorms include:
- Large amounts of hail, especially over open areas.
- Localised flooding of susceptible roads.
- Localised flooding of low-lying areas.
- Localised flooding of bridges.
