In yet another harrowing gang-rape, a woman in Soweto was apparently ‘left for dead’ after being pushed into a river by her attackers. Although she ultimately survived, her ordeal was a traumatic one.

According to local sources, the victim was walking to work in the early hours of Wednesday morning. During her journey through Protea South, Soweto, she was allegedly confronted by a group of armed men. Unverified reports claim some of the attackers were from Lesotho.

After she was held at gunpoint, it’s understood the men proceeded to gang rape the woman. The target was also robbed of her possessions. When the group of thugs finished committing this barbaric act, they then discarded their victim in unceremonious fashion.

Locals walking by a river that runs through Protea South were alerted to the presence of a woman in the water. It’s claimed she was left there by her attackers. Community members were eventually able to assist her, after initially recording the discovery on cell phone cameras.

By and large, details remain sketchy at this point. We’re still waiting on police to confirm their involvement in the case. The woman isn’t the only person to fall foul of gang-rapists recently, either. Last week, a former SAPS officer was arrested in connection with the Krugersdorp attack.

Meanwhile, a woman in the Eastern Cape lost her life, after she was severely injured following a mass sexual assault. Crucially, she was turned away from a clinic, and told to present herself at a police station instead. As it stands, South Africa is losing the war against GBV.
