The Presidency confirmed that Cyril Ramaphosa’s cabinet reshuffle had been moved again. The announcement is expected to be made at 20:30.

RAMAPHOSA CABINET RESHUFFLE PUSHED BACK AGAIN

Earlier on Monday, the Presidency said the cabinet shuffle would take place at 20:00 instead of 19:00 as originally promised. No reasons have been provided for the delays on Monday night.

As previously reported, Ramaphosa is expected to announce a new Deputy President, Transport Minister and Public Service and Administration Minister, as the incumbents have resigned or have taken up new positions outside Parliament.

He will also appoint a new Minister of Electricity in the Presidency. The new position is meant to lead South Africa out of the load shedding crisis.

Ramaphosa first announced the new portfolio during his State of the Nation Address (SONA) nearly a month ago on 9 February.

Speculation is rife about what other changes will be announced. A dozen ministers and deputy ministers failed to make it into the ANC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) at the party’s elective conference in December 2022.

Since the Polokwane conference in 2007, government positions have primarily been occupied by ANC NEC members.
