Meanwhile, three people were killed in a multi-vehicle accident on the N2 earlier on Saturday in KwaZulu-Natal.
Looters made off with beer while the three people lay dead on the scene.
The accident happened on the N2 between Stanger and Zinkwazi, where multiple vehicles were involved in a collision, including a beer truck.
Emergency services were hampered to manage the scene by looters who are ridding the truck of its cargo.
IPSS Medical Rescue advanced life support paramedics and Lenmed paramedics, and other emergency units were working to manage the scene.
IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson Paul Herbst said seven persons had been affected
“Three people have lost their lives in the accident. A further two patients are critical, while two more are in serious condition.
“It is alleged that a vehicle was overtaking multiple vehicles when it lost control and hit the truck, which in turn struck several cars.”
Traffic on both the north and south-bound carriageways was severely affected as a result of the accident on Saturday.
