Five electricity generation units have broken down in the past 24 hours. Eskom will implement Stage 5 and 4 power cuts until further notice.

Eskom will ramp load shedding up to Stage 5, again, from Tuesday afternoon, 23 May, after five electricity generation units broke down over the past 24 hours.
According to a Power Alert on Tuesday morning, Stage 5 load shedding kicks in from 16:00 until 5:00 on Wednesday. It will be replaced by Stage 4 until 16:00, and the pattern will be repeated until further notice.
As things stand, 18 177MW is unavailable due to breakdowns, and a further 2629MW is offline for planned maintenance.

Over the past 24 hours, two units were removed from service at Kriel Power Station and one unit each went down at Arnot, Camden and Tutuka.
There were also delays in returning units to service at Arnot, Kendal, Kriel, Lethabo, Matla, Tutuka and Hendrina (2).
“The team is working tirelessly to ensure that generating units are returned to service as soon as possible,” said Eskom.
During the same period, a unit each at Duvha, Kriel, Majuba, Medupi and Tutuka were returned to service.
