Hollywood Actor Brendan Fraser took the top spot on South Africa’s Google trends on Monday, 13 March, following his Best Actor victory in The Whale.
Brendan Fraser’s Oscar win sparks curiosity in South Africa – trending
Fraser’s name was searched over 10 000 times – other Oscar winners like Jamie Lee Curtis, Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan – also populate the list.
President Cyril Ramaphosa is also a trending topic with over 10 000 searches. The president has been under fire recently due to the Phala Phala scandal and his bloated cabinet.
In addition to Fraser and Ramaphosa, the looming EFF national shutdown is also a hot topic, with many South Africans curious about what it will entail. The shutdown is scheduled to take place exactly a week from Monday, and many are wondering how it will impact their daily lives.
Newly-appointed Public Service and Administration Minister Noxolo Kiviet is fourth on the list after the news broke that the University of Fort Hare had reported her to the SIU over alleged degree fraud.
