Free State Premier Sisi Ntombela’s resignation is imminent. Her resignation comes on the heels of her losing the position of ANC Free state chairperson to Mxolisi Dukwana, who is the current COGTA MEC in the province.

On Tuesday, ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula confirmed that Ntombela intends to resign at a media briefing on the outcomes of the Special National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

According to EWN, the ANC in the Free State resolved that Ntombela should be removed from her position last week.

SABC News reported that Ntombela, Zanele Sifuba, the provincial legislature’s Speaker, and nine other MECs failed to make it into the 35-member ANC Free State Provincial Executive Committee.

The new Free State chairperson, Dukwana, deputy chairperson, Ketso Makume and deputy provincial secretary Dibolelo Mahlatsi have been put forward as Ntombela’s possible replacements by the ANC in the province.
