Ship mishap at V&A Waterfront: Sailor injured as vessel topples over

A ship undergoing maintenance at the V&A Waterfront drydock partially fell over on Saturday, resulting in one injured sailor.

One sailor was injured when a ship at the V&A Waterfront drydock partly fell over while attempts were made to place it back into the water.

Injured Sailor in Stable Condition as Ship Assessment Underway

The ship management confirmed that the Bark EUROPA had an accident during its maintenance period.

One sailor was injured when the ship fell over, and all other crew members left the vessel unscathed. The injured sailor is currently in a stable condition and is receiving medical treatment.

“The extent of the damage to the ship is still being assessed, and at this moment, we cannot determine the exact timeline for resuming our sailing operations.

“We want to assure you that our crew are working diligently to addressing and resolving the situation, to determine the necessary steps to move forward,” read a statement.

The Bark EUROPA was due to depart from Cape Town for a 53-day cruise to Horta, Portugal, on 13 June.
