The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has advised recipients of the special Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress grant what will happen in cases where the grant payment bounced back due to an inactive bank account.

SASSA posted on its official Twitter account on Thursday:

“Did your funds from the first cycle of the special Covid-19 SRD grant bounce back due to an inactive bank account?”

“If funds were deposited into an account provided by the client and bounced back due to an inactive bank account SASSA has to reconcile the bank statements to confirm receipt of the funds back from the bank, before they can be regenerated for payment,” the government agency advised.

SASSA informed special SRD grant recipients that the process would be completed by the end of November.

“This process will be completed by end of November and paybacks will be made,” SASSA said.

SASSA advises beneficiaries to update personal details

The Social Security Agency also earlier advised grant recipients to update their personal details with the social security agency. The agency said that it was important to update personal details because failing to do so could result in an application being declined.

“COVID-19 SRD Grant clients whose marital status changed after they applied for the grant are urged to update SASSA of the change,” the social security agency said.

The government agency urged grant recipients who had got married or changed their surname at the Department of Home Affairs, to update SASSA regarding the change.

“SASSA validates the client’s information with the Department of Home Affairs monthly. If details do not match, the application for that period may be declined,” the agency warned.

The agency has also advised the beneficiaries of unclaimed grants from the first Covid-19 SRD grant cycle that they have until 30 November 2021 to collect their unclaimed funds at the Post Office.
