The speculation of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s possible resignation has prompted several political parties and figures, including those in the African National Congress (ANC) to reiterate their calls for him to leave Union Buildings.

It was News24 which reported that Ramaphosa was quite likely to resign, just a day after the special section 89 indepent panel of experts found that he has a case to answer in the Phala Phala scandal.

GROWING CALLS FOR RAMAPHOSA’S RESIGNATION

The likes of Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, who was vying for the ANC presidency, have since called for President Cyril Ramaphosa to step aside, at the very least, while the matter is being investigated. Now another Ramaphosa critic in the ANC has called for his resignation – and he isn’t mincing his words.

Andile Lungisa, who is contesting to become the party’s next treasurer-general, has told TimesLive that Ramaphosa must do the honourable thing and step down from office. Lungisa has also slammed Ramaphosa’s supporters who seemingly have no plans of disassociating themselves and will reportedly stay by his side.

“In fact, the people supporting the president was the same crowd at the forefront of the Nkandla report. All of them have no interest in the ANC — they only have an interest for their stomachs. We are dealing with allies here that have no other business but to steal from the poor. The same crowd of individuals fails one president and moves on to fail the next one. When they dump President Cyril, they’ll go and fail the next one. That’s what they do,” he told the publication.
