Post office robber shot and killed in armed robbery shoot-out

Police officers responded to an armed robbery on Friday and were met by a hail of bullets emanating from the group of armed suspects.

Police said a man in his forties was shot and killed in a shoot-out on Friday following an armed robbery at a post office in Ekuvukeni.

A SHOOT-OUT ENSUED AND ONE OF THE SUSPECTS WAS KILLED

Police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker said on Friday at around 09:00, Ekuvukeni SAPS received a report of an armed robbery at a Post Office.

“A team of police officers responded to the incident and were met by a hail of bullets emanating from the group of armed suspects.”

He said a shoot-out ensued, and a suspect believed to be in his forties was fatally wounded.

“Five other suspects aged between 30 and 45 were placed under arrest.”

Police recovered three pistols and a variety of ammunition and impounded the vehicle that the suspects used for further investigation.

“An undisclosed amount of cash that was stolen during the robbery was recovered by police. The arrested suspects will appear in court next week.”

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi welcomed the swift arrest of the armed robbers.

“The prompt response by Ekuvukeni SAPS is applauded. We hope that these arrests send a clear message to criminals who intend to take a chance in this province. Our police officers are up to the task, and such arrests are taking place regularly in KwaZulu-Natal.”
