20-year-old appears in court in connection with five murders
A 20-year-old man is set to appear in court in connection with a series of murders in Phillippi East, Cape Town.

A 20-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 8 March, in connection with a series of murders that took place in Phlippi East, Cape Town, in 2022.
20-YEAR-OLD SUSPECT LINKED TO FIVE MURDERS
South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said the murders took place on the evening of 8 October 2022 in Philippi East.
“The investigation into the murders, which occurred in three crime scenes that were in the same vicinity and left five people dead, saw the [Serious Violent Crimes] detectives conducting a search and seizure operation at an address in Phillippi East where they confiscated two firearms,” said the police spokesperson.
The confiscated firearms were sent for ballistics testing. The 20-year-old man will face charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition alongside the murder charges.
The police investigation continues, and the man may be linked to other murders, said Potelwa.
