Weather warning: Thunderstorms, hail, heavy downpours TODAY

Several weather warnings have been issued for hail, heavy downpours, and fires on Thursday, 29 December.

Weather warnings issued for today

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a level 4 warning.

This for severe thunderstorms resulting in hail, excessive lightning, damaging winds, and heavy downpours.

It is expected over the interior of KwaZulu-Natal and the south-eastern parts of Mpumalanga from the afternoon.

Level 2 warning for wind leading to difficulty navigating at sea

Another yellow level 2 weather warning was issued for severe thunderstorms leading to hail, excessive lightning, and heavy downpours.

This is expected over the extreme southern parts of the Free State and in places over the central and eastern parts of Mpumalanga as well as the eastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal from the afternoon into the evening.

A warning for wind leading to difficulty in navigation at sea is expected along the coast between Alexander Bay and Hermanus was also issued.

Fire danger warning

A warning for extremely high fire danger conditions has been issued over the Richtersveld Municipalities of the Northern Cape and the Matzikama Municipality of the Western Cape
