Missing elderly South African tourist FOUND in India

The 69-year-old South African tourist with a history of dementia who went missing in India on 31 January has been FOUND

Mumbai authorities located Dhramalingum Pillay, a 69-year-old South African tourist who was reported missing in India today, 12 February.

Missing South African tourist found

The Indian Embassy in Durban informed Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) at 11:56 of Dhramalingum Pillay’s location.

RUSA received confirmation of the news from Pillay’s family at 11:19.

Pillay, a resident of Tongaat-Kwazulu Natal, was vacationing in India with his 35-year-old daughter since 20 January 2023. 

He went missing on 31 January 2023 while waiting for his flight back to South Africa. 

Currently, no further details are available.

What happened when Pillay went missing?

Pillay and his daughter were expected to return to South Africa via Nairobi when he disappeared from the Mumbai International Airport.

When his daughter fell asleep while waiting to board their flight from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, the elderly man vanished.

Pillay’s nephew contacted Reaction Unit South Africa on Friday 3 February, seeking assistance after unsuccessful attempts to locate him.

Officers responding to the call were informed that the missing man has a history of dementia.

His daughter stayed in India to find her father.
