Bolt driver reports hijacking

At around 16:00, four residents of Phoenix arrived at the RUSA headquarters asking for assistance in a hijacking.

The owner of a Taxify (now Bolt) Toyota Etios sedan reported to reaction officers that his driver was intoxicated but managed to contact him and report that armed men had hijacked him.

Officers interviewed the intoxicated driver, who told them he had been attacked while en route to fetch a passenger and hijacked.

He pointed out injuries he allegedly sustained in the incident.

Vehicle located – with a whole different story to tell

While they searched the area, reaction officers advised the owner to report the hijacking to the South African Police Service (SAPS).

After a brief search, the vehicle was located at a residence on Jackal Road – Waterloo.

The occupants of the vehicle denied hijacking the car and handed the keys over to reaction officers.

They explained that the intoxicated driver had transported them to the airport to drop off a passenger.

He was unable to drive back in his state and extensively damaged the back of the car.

Intoxicated driver jumps out of moving vehicle

One of the occupants of the vehicle placed the driver into the passenger seat and proceeded to drive away.

While the occupant, who took over driving the vehicle, was driving, the Taxify (Bolt) driver jumped out of the moving vehicle.

When the occupants stopped to assist him, he opened the trunk, removed a wheel spanner, and attacked them.
