South Africans have been on the edge with rumors of his resignation amongst other things.

Meeting of the ANC NEC to decide Ramaphosa’s fate called off

The ANC National Executive Meeting (NEC) in Nasrec intended to discuss Ramaphosa’s fate on 2 December was called off.

According to ANC Treasurer-General Paul Mashatile, the ANC NEC meeting was canceled as ANC top leaders have yet to discuss the Section 89 independent panel report, which found Ramaphosa may have violated anti-corruption laws.

Mashatile further said that Ramaphosa was not present as he was still in Cape Town consulting.

The NEC is expected to meet again during the weekend to consider the recommendations from officials.

The Section 89 report is expected to be debated in Parliament on Tuesday, 6 December.

Parliament to consider Section 89 report

The National Assembly will consider and adopt a resolution regarding President Ramaphosa’s independent panel’s report on Tuesday, 6 December.

As part of its investigation, the panel examined whether Ramaphosa violated any of the grounds for impeachment set forth in Section 89 of the Constitution in connection with the robbery at his Phala Phala game farm in 2020.

A sitting President can be removed on the following grounds:

  • Serious violation of the Constitution or the law
  • Serious misconduct
  • Inability to perform the functions of office

Petition asks Ramaphosa not to resign

An online petition by Bram Hanekom, a plea is launched to ask Ramaphosa not to resign.

In total, 7,222 signatures have been collected in support of the petition.

In the plea, Hannekom said that South Africans are calling on him to continue his work as president of the country.

He further states that Rampahosa has done good work in reducing corruption, trying to stabalise the economy, and attracting investments.
