South Africa’s long running battle against hijacking incidents appears to be a losing one at the minute. Recent crime stats show how this particular crime is on the rise, and with each day that passes, the crooks seem to be getting evermore creative. Take the drive-thru method, for example.
This new trend is now targeting innocent motorists who use the drive-thru options at popular fast-food outlets. Neighbourhood Watch groups have been sharing messages posted recently by Charnel Hattingh, the Head of Communications for Fidelity ADT.
According to the top security official, hijacking gangs use TWO cars to block you in:
“We are increasingly starting to see a concerning trend where criminals target unsuspecting patrons at drive-thru establishments. Typically as you get to the front of the queue, armed suspects from the vehicle in front of you get out and attempt to hijack your vehicle.”
