SAPS employee KILLED by partner, body found by 13-year-old neighbour

The Mpumalanga woman was found lying in a pool of her own blood, with bruises on her upper body, but a probe determined she was strangled

A woman who worked as a clerk at a police station in Mpumalanga has been murdered, allegedly by her boyfriend, the South African Police Service (SAPS) in the province has said.

SAPS spokesperson Selvy Mohlala said the incident occurred in Esizamelini on Monday, 20 June 2022 – and that the woman’s body was found by her 13-year-old neighbour.

“The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela strongly condemned an incident in which a 43-year-old-woman, who was employed as an Admin Clerk in the SAPS was brutally murdered allegedly by her partner at Esizamelini in Wakkerstroom. Her lifeless body was reportedly discovered on 20 June 2022 around 08h00 am,” Mohlala added.

“According to the information received, on the sad day a 13 year-old boy went to his bedroom, where and stumbled into a lifeless body of a woman known to him as a neighbour, laying in her bed. She then informed an adult who then reported the matter to the police as well as the emergency medical personnel”

MPUMALANGA MAN ARRESTED FOR SAPS CLERK’S MURDER

As to how the SAPS Admin Clerk died, Mpumalanga police said a probe indicated that she might have been strangled. She was certified dead by the paramedics at the scene. A murder case was then opened and investigated by the police.

She was also found lying in a pool of her own blood, with bruises on her upper body parts.

“The investigation thus far revealed that the suspect was last seen with the slain woman as he reportedly visited her. Police worked hard in their investigation to crack the case whereby a manhunt was launched for the suspect. The astute members were then led to a 34-year-old man who was reportedly seen with the victim at the said house before her body was discovered”

The man was arrested and charged with murder and is expected to appear at the Wakkestroom Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 22 June 2022, facing the said charges. At this stage the motive for the killing is unknown, police have said.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has welcomed the arrest of the suspect at same time expressed her disappointment on the incidents of Gender-Based-Violence where women across the board continue to suffer at the hands of those who were supposed to protect them.

“The situation of brutal murders of women by their spouses can never be allowed to allowed to carry on like this. We need to put a stop on these and we hope that the law will take its course in dealing with perpetrators,” she said.
