Just days after an alleged racist incident at the Maselspoort Resort outside Bloemfontein in the Free State, it has been learnt that the two white men accused of attacking teenage black boys, are still staying at the place.

There has been widespread anger following the incident, including from Government and political parties, who have demanded that the resort take firm action against the alleged perpetrators.

The Maselspoort Resort has come to its own defence after some claimed only white people had been allowed at its swimming pool. The resort’s Nick Mitchell says they’re a racially free resort that does not allow any segregation or racism.

“At this moment the police are handling the situation. As mentioned, there is the police case opened against the parties involved,” Mitchell said.

According to one of the black boys’ father, the teens were told they weren’t residents at the resort and weren’t allowed to swim there, but he insists  they were also residents who had the right to use the facilities.

“We went there with my sister to check on the kids and indeed when we arrived there, we engaged those white folks and they said ‘no, there was a miscommunication with the kids’. They didn’t understand, they thought that they were not residents at Maselspoort because the swimming pool can only be accessed by residents and the kids told them we are residents here. I also told them we are residents here and we have paid just as they have paid,” the father said.

Meanwhile, Free State Premier Sisi Khompela has condemned the incident, which is being investigated by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in the province.
