Local businessman Malcolm X, who is also known as the ‘People’s Blesser’, is now focusing his charitable energy on Sibongile Mani – after the former student was sentenced to five years in prison for spending NSFAS funds that were wrongly deposited to her account.
Who is Malcolm X?
Malcolm X has gone viral many times before. The generous giver has taken homeless people out to lunch, and bought groceries for struggling South Africans. He even offered a R1 million reward for information about the Parliament fire. However, his latest initiative seeks to involve other entities.
The businessman wrote about his latest offer on his social media pages. He has pledged R500 000 towards the R818 000 that Sibongile Mani blew through, when NSFAS accidentally gave her R14 million back in 2017.
NSFAS fraud: Student given harsh sentence
Mani did not report the issue, and instead, she went on an almighty spending spree. The mother-of-two was spared absolutely no mercy by the courts on Wednesday, and the guilty party will now be behind bars until 2027.
Malcolm X hopes his intervention will help secure freedom for Sibongile Mani – but the repayment of funds was not an option set down by the judge. Nonetheless, other entrepreneurs have been asked to stump up the remaining R318 000, to clear the former student’s debt completely.
“I, Malcolm X aka Business, hereby pledge R500 000 towards the R818 000 that the Walter Sisulu University (WSU) student, Sbongile Mani, ‘accidentally’ used from the R14m that was ‘accidentally’ transferred to her bank account, provided the payment of this money will lead to her immediate release from prison.
“I urge responsible entrepreneurs to donate the other R318 000 to round up the R818 000 that she ‘accidentally’ used for herself and other students.”
