“Goodbye alien and corrupt ANC, I quit. Thank you”: These were the words Makhosi Khoza used to leave the party this morning, live at a press conference.

She has faced constant internal disciplinaries for her vehement opposition to the corruption and lies she believes the ANC are constantly responsible for.

Khoza has received death threats for her staunch criticism of Jacob Zuma, and states she can no longer represent the ANC in its current form.

Is a cabinet reshuffle on the cards?

It looks like today is going to be an extremely busy one for the ANC, and South African politics in general. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma is to be sworn in to government this afternoon, almost certainly leading to a cabinet reshuffle.

Wow. Two in six months. Aren’t we blessed?

Speaking at a briefing at Liliesleaf Farm on Thursday, ANC MP Makhosi Khoza announced her decision to quit the party just before 11:40am. She addressed her children in the audience, then explained her decision further:

Yes, colonialism and apartheid oppressed us, but it is more oppressing when your own comrades oppress you with corruption. Now with a heavy heart that I have to say, it’s no longer the anc I know, its alien and corrupt …. I want to free myself. Goodbye alien and corrupt ANC, I quit. Thank You”

Will Makhosi Khoza join another party?

Khoza also denied that she is turning her back on the ANC. She claimed that she is not leaving the ANC mission, nor is she going to join the DA. She just cannot represent this party whilst it is the way it currently is.

She ended her media briefing by reiterating her calls for Jacob Zuma to resign from the presidency. However, with Dlamini-Zuma being sworn in later this afternoon, it seems that JZ is doing all he can to consolidate his power.
