Eish, this looks nasty. A cyclist was rushed to hospital over the weekend, after somehow managing to plunge over the side of Chapman’s Peak.

A male cyclist is currently receiving high-care medical treatment, after he fell down an embankment on Chapman’s Peak this weekend. The incident at the Cape Town beauty spot left the victim with a number of ‘serious injuries’.

Chapman’s Peak latest: Cyclist ‘seriously injured’ in fall

Chappies, as it’s affectionately known by locals, boasts tremendous scenery and dramatic cliff-side views. However, this cyclist got a little too close to the edge. Although it’s not exactly known how this person ended up in such a perilous situation, the operation to recover him from the hillside was successful.

Cyclist ‘fighting for life’ after cliffside plunge

At around 9:30 on Sunday, the first reports of a significant incident on Chapman’s Peak were made public – with traffic at the Hout Bay side alerted to a schedule of disruption by the roadside.

Update: Chapman’s Peak Cyclist recovering in hospital

On Monday afternoon, road safety agency Arrive Alive confirmed that ER24 were amongst the first responders at the scene. They were able to verify some minor details, painting a grim picture for the hospitalised cyclist.

“A cyclist went down an embankment on Chapman’s Peak, Hout Bay. The cyclist was seriously injured in the incident. Authorities were called to the scene, as well as ER24 for assistance.”

Emergency teams ‘brave harsh terrain’ to rescue cyclist

Pictures taken at the scene captured paramedics trying to move the cyclist onto a stretcher. Several responders can be seen working in the shrubbery, trying to free the man from his painful predicament. Perhaps as a small mercy to us all, the extent of the injuries have been pixelated by emergency medical teams.
