The incident has been declared an extremely serious one, with forensic and pathology units now racing to the crash site near Leeu-Gamka. As well as the heartbreaking death toll, the N1 crash is responsible for a traffic nightmare.
The highway was closed in both directions on Monday morning, forcing motorists to seek out alternative routes. However, given the cruel loss of life experienced here, those only affected by a longer journey time must count their blessings – especially with Christmas just around the corner.
