KZN floods: Body of girl, 5, found on riverbank – police seek family

Police believe the five-year-old may have drowned in Chatsworth or Welbedacht during the devastating KwaZulul-Natal floods.

The body of a five-year-old girl was found on a riverbank along the Umlazi River near the Mangosuthu Highway on 12 April. The police are urgently seeking her family.

POLICE SEEK NEXT OF KIN

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala said the girl’s body was found at approximately 13:00, in a statement on Thursday, 5 May.

“Police officers believe that the victim may have drowned in Chatsworth or Welbedacht during the recent floods. She was wearing strings around her waist and one on the hand,” said Gwala.

The Bhekithemba SAPS station is investigating an inquest docket.
