President Ramaphosa has broken his silence on the barbaric reports that reached us from Krugersdorp on Friday. As confirmed earlier, a gang of thugs crashed the set of a music video and violated multiple women at the scene.

Krugersdorp rape attacks horrifies South Africa

Twenty men wearing Basotho blankets and balaclavas allegedly fired several shots in the air. That forced everyone to lay down.

Police spokesperson Brenda Muridili says a production company was shooting a music video on Thursday when they were attacked by a group of armed men. The men allegedly fired several shots in the air and ordered everyone hit the ground. They then raped the women in nearby bushes.

The incident has, quite understandably, sent shockwaves across the country. The perpetrators are believed to be Zama Zamas, and tensions have been escalating between the group and South African nationals recently. This incident will do nothing to calm the situation.

Cyril Ramaphosa responds to GBV incident

Ramaphosa is currently attending the ANC Policy Conference this weekend. It’ll be more promises of renewal. There will be something about ending corruption. And you can guarantee that platitudes about Gender-Based Violence will also make an appearance.

In fact, we’ve already reached that point. Cyril addressed the crowds after news of the mass rapes in Krugersdorp went public. He stated that this was a ‘manifestation’ of the problem in the country, before generically imploring ANC comrades to ‘support women’ in any way they can.

  • A semblance of a solution would be nice one day, mind…

“Communities across the country live in fear. What I’ve heard from Comrade Bheki Cele, just a minute ago, about West Village [in Krugersdorp]… is a manifestation of how Gender-Based Violence spreads. This conference must come up with ways to support women.”
