Julius Malema: EFF will not vote for ANC in Ekurhuleni

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema says his party has no plans of voting for the African National Congress (ANC) in Ekurhuleni, despite having friends in the party.

Malema made the remarks during the third EFF Western Cape Provincial Peoples’ Assembly on Saturday.

“The EFF does not want to vote for the ANC in Ekurhuleni … it will never happen. We will not vote with the ANC because I am friends with Masina. We are not going to use those tools of analysis to determine how things go in Ekurhuleni,” Malema said.

Julius Malema’s comments come as the ANC in Ekurhuleni has tabled a motion of no confidence against Mayor Tania Campbell.

The ANC says it is concerned that the  instability in the DA-led coalition adversely affects residents.  

“We have noted with disgust the deteriorating level of service delivery. Particularly in the townships, there are escalated levels of potholes, waste collection is not done sewage flows every day and in Ekurhuleni lit areas there’s hardly security of supply. So we are definitely going to be tabling a motion of no confidence in the confused and useless DA mayor,” says regional spokesperson, Lesiba Mpya.

The ANC has accused the multi-party government of making the changes to settle a political score following the ousting of former Johannesburg mayor Mpho Phalatse. 

“We want to hold whoever is in government to account, and we will not flinch because we want quality service delivery to be given t the people of Ekurhuleni. We are quite disturbed, and we look forward to tabling a motion of no confidence in this month of October.”
