BAKKIE ROLLOVER ON TUESDAY MORNING

ER24 said its paramedics rushed to the scene at 7:15 and found a bakkie lying on its side on the roadside.

“Several passengers that had been in the back of the vehicle were now scattered around the road. Medics immediately tended to the patients while the local authorities began closing off the road and diverting traffic,” said a spokesperson for the private EMS service.

Upon assessing the patients, medics found that one man had sustained fatal injuries and four men were in a critical condition.

Sixteen other patients sustained minor to moderate injuries in the accident. Patients were treated at the scene before being rushed to the hospital for urgent care.

“The exact details surrounding this incident are unknown, but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations,” said ER24.

Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said the bakkie was found to have overturned in the accident. The deceased male is approximately 30 years old.

“An on-scene triage area was established by incident commanders, and multiple patients were treated for injuries ranging from moderate to serious before being taken to various nearby hospitals by ambulances for further care,” he said.
