IPID: Police catch man CUTTING girlfriend’s stomach open on New Year’s

IPID says when police arrived at the scene in Inanda, they found the man taking out his dead girlfriend’s intestines

New Year’s Day got off to a grim start for a KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) woman who was stabbed to death by her boyfriend. The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is currently probing the matter as the boyfriend was shot by a member of the South African Police Service (SAPS).

According to IPID, they found the man literally cutting his girlfriend’s stomach open on Saturday, 1 January 2022, in Inanda. IPID spokesperson Graca Langa said police were called to the scene after the 34-year-old man had stabbed the woman.

He had been visiting her at the cottage she had been renting in C37 Zambia Amaoti.

“The boyfriend who is now the deceased was reported to the police and when police arrived at the girlfriend ‘s cottage,they found him(boyfriend)busy cutting the girlfriend’s body opening her stomach and taking out the intestines as if he was conducting the pm”

After catching him red handed: cutting up his girlfriend’s stomach, IPID says KZN police tried to pounce on the suspect, but he resisted. The man attempted to attack police, who shot at him. He was later confirmed dead.

In addition, they found three empty cartridges and a knife, presumably the same one used to stab the woman. For now, the victim’s identity remains unknown.

“The identity of the woman could not be confirmed even though she was killed in her room because she was the one who was renting the room the deceased (A/M) was the visitor in the cottages.We found the lady ‘s bank cards with no Identity Document number. The family is not known as we could not identify the woman.Investigations are continuing”

A report released by IPID in October 2021 found that there was an increase in the number of deaths in police custody and deaths as a result of police action in KwaZulu-Natal during the 2020/21 financial year. During that period,  6 122 cases were reported to IPID.
