Home Affairs operating hours EXTENDED to 18:30 this week

The Department of Home Affairs is once again extending its operating hours at its offices across the country due to an increase in demand for services. 

Last week Friday, the department’s systems are offline nationwide due to a cable breakage. This incident was reportedly caused by a cable breakage which connects to the State Information Technology Agency (SITA). 

HOME AFFAIRS EXTENDS OPERATING HOURS 

The Department of Home Affairs said it is extending operating hours until Friday, 08 April 2022 to deal with queues at offices following an increase in demand for services. 

“During this period, offices will open until 18:30,” the department said.

On Sunday, the department confirmed that the cable issue had been fixed and all services had been restored.

The department also announced that it will extend operating hours until 18:30 on Monday, 4 April after its systems went offline due a cable breakage last Friday. The network outage limited services to passport collections and handwritten death certificates were issued for burial purposes.

Department of Home Affairs Minister, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, instructed the department to extend Monday’s operating hours to 18:30 in order to ensure that all clients that visited the offices on Friday were served.

At the time, Motsoaledi said the department owed it to the public to extend operating hours to compensate for the unfortunate network failure incident.

The department has also confirmed that anyone who is inside a Home Affairs office by 18:30, will be assisted.
