It’s beyond sickening: A school worker in Gqeberha has been accused of raping a six-year-old girl – as she went to use the bathroom.

This is a punch to the gut, and then some. Parents at a school in Gqeberha’s northern suburbs are absolutely furious, after a six-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a member of staff. The incident, reported on Tuesday, is sending shockwaves across the country.

The Grade R pupil, according to local reports, had made her way to the bathroom at Machiu Primary School earlier this week. It’s understood that the suspect then pounced on her in the stalls, committing a reprehensible act of sexual violence against his defenceless victim.

In fact, the incident has hospitalised the young learner, such was the brutality of this crime. The local community is, quite understandably, spitting feathers. A group of parents arrived at the Gqeberha school on Thursday, demanding for an immediate closure of the facility.

Tempers and emotions ran high at the school gates, as staff members were confronted by a host of apoplectic mothers and fathers. In a short clip posted online, the mood of the community is laid bare – and the demand for a swift course of justice is now non-negotiable.

The man accused of this atrocious crime is the school’s general worker.

Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu has since confirmed that a case has been registered with SAPS in Gqeberha, but parents and caregivers remain apprehensive – given that the accused was still ‘on duty’ after the report was filed. It’s no wonder locals are up in arms…
