Gordhan is expected to answer questions over the allegations of rampant corruption at national power utility Eskom.

Minister of Public Enterprises, Pravin Gordhan, is appearing before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) on Wednesday, 17 May, to answer questions over the allegations of rampant corruption at national power utility Eskom.

In a media alert, SCOPA said the Eskom allegations, which were raised by former CEO Andre de Ruyter, are corruption, theft, maladministration, sabotage, lack of consequence management, cartels and other financial irregularities.

De Ruyter himself appeared before SCOPA on 26 April. However, at the end of the meeting, the Committee said it was still at “square one”, and its questions had not been answered.

Since the former Eskom CEO’s appearance, the Committee has summoned SAPS, the Hawks, the SIU and the Eskom board. Gordhan is the latest to be summoned over the allegations.
The meeting is expected to commence at 9:30 on Wednesday.
