Oh dear. We know the current fuel price is hard to accept at the moment, but for those of you weighing up the option of hijacking a diesel tanker, it’s our duty to tell you that it’s not going to end well. Unfortunately, this bloke had to learn his lesson the hard way.

Diesel tanker hijacked in Gauteng

A 40-year-old male will appear in the Delmas District Court on Friday, after he led the cops on a high-speed chase through Mpumalanga and Gauteng. He was eventually cornered in Bronkhorstspruit, before SAPS officers were able to apprehend him.

He has been slapped with a charge of ‘possessing a stolen diesel tanker’, and what’s more, police are now linking him to the hijackings of other fuel-carrying vehicles in the region.

  • SAPS issued a statement about the arrest on Thursday afternoon, confirming the details of this hijacking

“SAPS from Delmas were informed about a diesel tanker that was hijacked in Sonkizizwe near Bronkhorstspruit earlier yesterday and was heading towards Road just before the R42 Bronkhorstspruit off ramp. The truck was chased and subsequently cornered.”

“The suspect was arrested and charged for possession of stolen diesel tanker, as well as possibly linked to the incident in which the tanker was stolen at Bronkhorstspruit. He is expected to appear in the Delmas District Court tomorrow, Friday 17 June 2022.”

Suspect ‘linked to similar crimes’

The next job for SAPS will be to establish how many other incidents this suspect is connected to, and if he’s working alongside any other hijackers. The arresting officers from the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) have been praised for their successful takedown.
