A 25-year-old suspect was arrested for allegedly illegally possessing a shotgun and ammunition in Grassy Park, Cape Town, on Saturday, 1 April.

ALLEGED GANG MEMBER CAUGHT RED-HANDED BY POLICE IN CAPE TOWN

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said members attached to the Grassy Park Crime Prevention Unit responded to a shooting incident in Parkwood on Saturday.

While patrolling the area, members spotted a local gang member in Orientation Crescent, Parkwood. The suspect was armed.

“When the suspect saw the patrol vehicle, he ran away and threw the firearm on the ground. He was apprehended for charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and was detained at Grassy Park SAPS,” said the police spokesperson.

The weapon was a shotgun. The members also found two shotgun shells, which were handed in as an exhibit. The ownership of the shotgun is yet to be established.

In an unrelated incident, a group of heavily armed suspects stormed a fuel station in Limpopo and bombed two ATMs and a safe. No injuries were reported.
