The family of Ga-Rankuwa principal, Moses Kadiege says there is still no clarity as to what led to his death.

The Gauteng Education Department confirmed on Monday, 26 September 2022, that Kadiege, who worked at H.L. Setlalentoa Secondary School was found dead just the day before. Kadiege had reportedly left his home in Brits, north of Tshwane, to visit a friend on Saturday, but never returned.

The 56-year-old man’s body was then found abandoned in Winterveld.

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi visited the Kadiege family and the school, in the wake of the tragic incident.

“The death of a principal isn’t ordinary. We need to put the necessary systems, we need to intervene, we need to give support. But most importantly, we need to ensure that those that are affected are given immediate support… I’m here to comfort you. I’m here to assure you that your pain is our pain,” Lesufi said.

PRETORIA PRINCIPAL MAY HAVE BEEN STANGLED

According to the spokesperson for the late Pretoria principal’s family, it appears he had been involved in a struggle, but it isn’t clear if he was shot. For now, authorities have told them they are still investigating the circumstances surrounding Kadiege’s death.

“Apparently he was swollen. It looks like he was fighting. But they don’t confirm if he was ever shot, but they said he was bleeding somewhere here,” said close friend Ernest Hlungwani as he points to his arm.

“They might have strangled him, according to the report that I got. I didn’t see the corpse, so as I am saying, we are still trying to find out what really happened. They didn’t also allow people to search him in his pockets to check if he has his ID because they have taken everything from him. His laptop, cellphone. I think also a gun or two guns in his car”

Hlungwani adds that Kadiege’s car was found in a bush.

Meanwhile, the provincial education department has since deployed its psychosocial unit to the school, where trauma support and counselling will be extended to those who may be affected by this incident.

“We are disheartened by the untimely death of our revered principal, and we wish to convey our sincerest condolences to the school community and his beloved family,” Lesufi said.
