The couple have been identified as Louis and Ina Cloete. This gruesome incident has prompted a swift reaction from Limpopo SAPS, who have now implemented their 72-hour Activation Plan. A manhunt is now in operation, and details of the province’s latest farm murder have been made public.

  • Authorities were alerted when a passer-by noticed two strangers wandering in the premises.
  • An attempt to leave the scene in the farmer’s vehicle, along with stolen goods, was mysteriously abandoned.
  • The pair instead left on foot, escaping just before the police arrived.
  • While at the scene, SAPS found the farm house on fire, with Louis and Ina ‘burnt beyond recognition’.
  • The thugs took several items, including firearms, and loaded them into the farmer’s vehicle, before torching the home.
  • Police have opened cases of two counts of murder, house robbery and arson.

Manhunt in place for ‘horrendous’ killers

In a statement issued on Thursday, SAPS pleaded for community members to share any information they might have about this disturbing act of mindless violence. The killers are currently being tracked by a dedicated task team, who are aiming to these suspects before the end of the week.

“The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant Thembi Hadebe has ordered a 72-hour Activation Plan to hunt down the suspects following an incident in which a 74-year-old farmer and his wife perished. We call on community members with information to come forward and assist in the investigation of this horrendous crime.”

“The victims’ farmhouse was allegedly set on fire during a house robbery on their farm at Levubu, outside Thohoyandou yesterday, on Wednesday 20 April 2022 at about 16:20. A Task Team comprising detectives from Provicial, District and Station levels has already been assembled to track down the killers.”
