Weekend load shedding schedule: Stage 5 and 4 to return, says Eskom

Eskom announced South Africa will experience lower stages of load shedding this weekend due to lower demand.

Eskom said load shedding would be reduced during parts of the coming weekend due to lower demand on Friday, 14 April.

REDUCED DEMAND TO BRING SLIGHT REPRIEVE FROM STAGE 6 LOAD SHEDDING

Stage 5 load shedding returns on Saturday from 5:00. However, power cuts will be elevated to Stage 6 from 16:00 on the day.

The power cut schedule for Sunday, 16 April, will follow a similar schedule, with Stage 4 between 5:00 and 16:00 and Stage 6 from 16:00.

As things stand, 17 093MW of generating capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns, and a further 6392MW is offline for planned maintenance.

Over the past 24 hours, two generating units at Camden Power Station were taken offline for repairs and units at Kendal, Tutuka and Medupi (2) are yet to be returned to service.

As usual, Eskom has attributed the capacity constraints to these breakdowns and delays. During the same period, a generating unit each at Kendal and Lethabo Power Stations were reconnected.

“We thank all South Africans who continue using electricity sparingly and efficiently in helping to alleviate the pressure on the power system as this is assisting in avoiding higher stages of load shedding,” said the power utility.
